Horse-Power Ranch

For those of you curious to know some things about our new home,

here is a Photo Gallery of the ranch and some of the interesting critters that live here (besides us I mean!)

Mariposa is at the base of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, the gateway to Yosemite, at about 2000' elevation. We are about 1 1/2 hours north of Fresno California on the west side facing the vast California Heartland.

Here is the house. Click on the thumbnails for a larger view.

Front of the house

Covered patio...ready for entertaining!

Outside the master bedroom.

The nice big barn.

Inside the barn.

Big old oaks trees cover the land.

Nice big round pen, former owner using it.

Typical example of monolith granite formations laying everywhere.

Here was our first snowstorm, and the '59 thinks it's back in Illinois!

Unusually snowy according to the locals.

March 11th, 2006...so pretty!

Our cat, Mr. Peach, will take over the tour here.

Here is Zippy, trying to look "cute"

Here's how Zippy is the rest of the time.

One too many Coronas

This is my favorite rock. Come on through, I dare 'ya!

I'm bored, bored, bored. Let me out so I can catch something.

Even my dreams are boring.

I read every Christmas card we get. Some of you didn't send money...

Come on up, I dare you!

I wish I was outside.

I thought I saw a squirrel...

This is my other female roomate, Mittens. Don't bother calling her, she's deaf.

OK, so her ear was dirty...that doesn't mean I like her.

OK, really dirty ear here.

Why do girls always crowd us while we're sleeping?

See what I mean? A real bed hog!

The tour is over. You are dismissed. Be sure to visit the gift shop on your way out.

Now it's our horse Dini's turn to show you around the ranch.

Here I am in my new home....pretty cool, huh?

Me and the furry guy in the new pasture

These big green things jump all around the place.

Then there's all of these little green hoppy things everywhere.

And of course, even bigger lumpy ones.

These squiggly things go by every now and then. They never say anything, seem to be in a hurry or something.

Really smooth movers these black and yellow guys.

He wouldn't tell me his name, he was just waiting for one of those green hoppy things to go by.

This guy was waiting for something bigger to go by...

...like one of these annoying chatterboxes...they're always talking amongst themselves..

...unlike these quiet little dudes, maybe they're too quiet...I think they may be up to something...

Some kind of rodent-thing....big deal.. as long as he stays out of my bag of carrots.

Now, THAT'S a big bug!

I keep finding these in my water bucket...mostly on the bottom.

I heard the cat caught this one...big deal.

Now these guys know "cool"...sauntering around, nice and slow...then they're gone.

I see these guys mostly at night...I just know they're gonna get in my hair someday.

These are wild turkeys in the yard. Notice how calm they are...it was March.

...now I know she's looking for my carrots...

Deer jumping over the fence...big deal...I could do that if I wanted to.

I can share my pasture with these cute girls, but they better stay away from my carrots.

First ride at the new ranch

Here's one of my new herdmates, I'll share my carrots with her!

Tootie and Fernando have learned to share the pasture with me.

Tootie...what can I say? She's a cutie!

This is her "hot days" hair-do...
